James M. Wheeler

Born: 7/30/1946 ~ Died: 11/06/2022

Jim passed peacefully at home after a short battle with Liver cancer.

Jim is preceded in death by his mother, Carlie (Dyer) Wiedman, and his father, Ray Wheeler, along with sister, Patricia Tunnell. 

Jim is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sharon (Wing) Wheeler, and two loving children, Ben (Rebecca) Wheeler of Dexter, and Sara (Brian) Pierce of Brighton; also grandsons, Grady Wheeler, and Curtis and Oliver Pierce. He is survived by siblings, Margaret Cosgray of Dexter, and Harvey (Eileen) Wheeler of Ovid, in addition to numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Jim started life as a farm boy and transitioned into a football star playing in the 1963 undefeated Dexter team. He had a short attendance at Idaho State University on a football scholarship. Jim had a 41 year career with Cribley Well Drilling. In his retirement, he enjoyed traveling, woodworking, and spending time with his friends, family, and energetic grandsons.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 11, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Dexter United Methodist Church, 7643 Huron River Drive, Dexter.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2022 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea, as well as on Friday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Gordon Hall , make checks to Dexter Area Historical Society, or Dexter Community Schools Athletic Scholarship to cover the participation fees of students who cannot afford them, make checks payable to Dexter Community Schools.
