Joseph R. "Rick" Stanfield

Joseph Richard "Rick" Stanfield, age 75, of Dexter, MI, formerly of Troy, MI, passed away on November 24, 2024, at Chelsea Hospital. He was born on October 31, 1949, in Detroit, MI, to Harry and Iona (Sharpe) Stanfield.

Rick was a dedicated special education teacher in the Birmingham school district, where he taught for 30 years before retiring. He married Janet Kay (Mast) on July 8, 1989, and they enjoyed over 35 years of marriage.

A passionate outdoorsman, Rick had a lifelong love for bird hunting and fly fishing, skills he honed over the years, even tying his own flies. He was also a devoted volunteer, serving as the head coach of the Jr. Detroit Sportsmen's Congress, where he mentored many young people. Rick’s love for nature also extended to his hobbies of photography and art.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Stanfield; his son, Dylan Stanfield of Dexter; and many nieces and nephews. Rick will also be missed by Kasey, his loyal 15-year-old K-9 companion. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Lauren Stanfield.

The family will receive friends at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home in Chelsea on Friday, November 29, 2024, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church of Christ in Dexter on Thursday, December 19, 2024, 11:00 a.m., where the family will receive friends church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service.
