Ann M. Becktel, age 70, of Manchester, MI passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. She was born in Jackson, MI on February 23, 1951, the daughter of Harold and Florence (Kirk) Burch. On April 17, 1970, she married Lawrence G. Becktel, and he preceded her in death in September of 2016.
Ann had lived in Manchester her whole life. After being a devoted stay at home mother, she started working elections for Manchester in the late 80s. In 1995 she took a position with Manchester Township as Deputy Treasurer and assistant office administrator until 2003, when she was elected as Clerk for Manchester Township until 2016. She was an avid golfer and member of the Tecumseh Country Club. She loved to travel and golf was a big part of their travels. She would challenge herself by playing the white tees. She loved to eat out at nice restaurants, especially Knight’s Restaurant.
Ann is survived by three children, Tracy (Don) Hagerman of Manchester, Timothy Becktel of Jackson, and Terri (Ron) Johnson of Manchester; one sister, Mary Beth (Rod) Miller of Florida, and sister-in-law, Ruth Burch of Manchester; four grandchildren, Steven (Hailee) Frey, Jessica Frey, Charlize Booker, and Drake Booker. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Burch.
Visitation will be held at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Manchester.
