Mary F. Barnes passed away at her home on April 18, 2020 surrounded by her family. She was born the daughter of John F. and Mary (McKinstry) Barnes on May 8, 1949 in Harlan, Kentucky. On June 14, 1969, she married her soul mate, Alvin Barnes, and he survives.
Mary, a lady of grace and strength, was the center of Alvin’s life. Mary was a giving person that always put others before herself, and she was the epitome of a true southern belle. She volunteered for many organizations and took that responsibility seriously. She got things done and was a true friend to many.
In addition to her husband, Alvin, she is survived by her children, Heather (Al) Braspenninx and Tricia Renea, along with their four grandchildren, April, Alex, Jacob, and Morgan. She is also survived by her siblings, Martha Ragland of LaGrange, KY, Charles (Shelva) Barnes of Louisville, KY, and John (Janet) Barnes of Lexington, KY. She was preceded in death by her brother, Joe Barnes.
A private burial will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta Township, MI. Memorial contributions in honor of Mary may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or the Salvation Army. Arrangements by Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea.
