Winona Landwehr, age 86, of Chelsea, MI, passed away early Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at Chelsea Retirement Community-Glazier Commons. She was born June 5, 1933, to Ray and Thelma (Aldrich) Franklin, of Chelsea.
She married Duane Landwehr on November 7, 1953. They made their home in Chelsea where they raised three boys.
Winona loved to socialize with friends and family. She was involved in community groups like Kinder Club, 4-H and many others.
After high school she worked for Michigan Bell in Ann Arbor, then the Dairy Bar in Chelsea, where she met Duane. She also worked at the Chelsea Community Hospital and later Vogel’s Department Store. Later she volunteered for over 25 years at the Chelsea Community Hospital/St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital.
Together Winona and Duane traveled throughout the US, to South America, Europe and the Caribbean, often with friends.
Winona was preceded in death by Duane, her husband of 64 years, her son, Michael, granddaughter, Jessica, and brother, Thomas Franklin.
She is survived by her children, Dennis Landwehr of Armada, and Ron (Annette) Landwehr of Commerce, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, April 17, 2020 at 2:00 pm, at Oak Grove East Cemetery, Chelsea. Funeral Directors are following CDC recommendations during this COVID-19 pandemic, and those in attendance will be instructed accordingly.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in Winona’s honor to the St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital.
