Mark I. Smith, age 95, of Stockbridge, MI, passed away on Wednesday July 3, 2024 at Henry Ford Jackson Hospital surrounded by family.
Mark was born on April 2, 1929 in Stockbridge, MI to Arthur and Bessie (Green) Smith. He lived in Stockbridge all of his life. Many people knew him as the “Baler Man.” He was an extremely avid MSU fan. Mark enjoyed putzing in his shop and spending time with his family.
On July 14, 1957, he married the love of his life, Arloa I. Proctor, at Arloa’s parents’ home in Millville.
He will be missed by his daughter, Deborah (Jeff) Shepard of Jackson; grandchildren, Brittany (Milian) Cordero and Alexandra Davis; three great-grandchildren, Enzo, Emory, Milani; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Arloa; grandson in-law, Christopher Davis; brothers, Leo Smith and Arthur Jr. "Bud" Smith; sisters, Frances Ellsworth, Margaret Pelton, and Jocille Smith.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 8, 2024, at 12:00 p.m., at Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home in Stockbridge, MI. Burial to follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
