Wendell J. Moeckel, age 83, passed away peacefully at his home in Grass Lake, MI, on December 4, 2024. He was born on September 5, 1941, in Leslie, MI, the son of Kenneth and Mona (Mills) Moeckel.
Wendell married Carol (Maas) on October 23, 1965, and together they filled their home with love and laughter.
Wendell dedicated over 34 years of his life working at the Chrysler Proving Grounds. He retired in December 1999. He cherished the time spent with family and friends and loved organizing gatherings. His home was always a welcoming place for all.
He loved going to car races, and the one event Wendell looked forward to every year was the semi-truck show in St. Ignace, MI. He also enjoyed attending and watching rodeos. He never missed an opportunity to go have a good time. He enjoyed dancing and would dance with his cap turned backwards. He had a soft spot for his wife as he helped her run deliveries for her Avon business. He was known as "Mr. Avon.”
Wendell was a devoted husband to Carol for 59 years. He was a proud father to Laura Moeckel and Matt Moeckel, and a cherished grandfather to Dustin and Sadie Moeckel. He is also survived by his siblings, Tim (Wanda) Moeckel, Kim (Linda) Moeckel, RoxAnn (Dennis) Jarrell, Sheri (Craig) Hamlin, and Betsy (Phil) Lewis; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Chita Kunzelman and SueZelle Nottingham, and brother-in-law, Duane Kunzelman.
A celebration of Wendell’s life will be held at a later date.
